Prior to picking this driver up I was playing the TM Superfast 2.0. I got to a point where I maxed out at about 280 with the Superfast due to the loft and flex. Too much spin and too high of a launch angle. I replaced the shaft, added weight and spent too much time fiddling.
I decided to take a look at what was on the market and spent time at Golfsmith going through the R1's, RBZ and RBZier, Titleist, Callaway variations. Everything put me consistently in the 280 to 290 range consistently. On a whim I grabbed a Ping golf driver 8.5 degree with a tour stiff shaft that happened to be sitting in the booth I was hitting in and took a swing. 314 yards. Then 311, again 316. Low spin, perfect launch angle, and a superb feel.
Now I'm averaging around 300 yards a drive. I'm supremely confident I will hit is straight, and I'm well within range to go for the green on almost every par 5. In 4 rounds I've had long drives, of 320, 332, 340, and yesterday I measured a drive of 352!
Bottom line is I'm putting myself in great position off the tee, and have added distance and increased accuracy with this driver. It sets up nicely and feels great. I highly recommend this driver, and really recommend you get fitted no matter what club(s) you're considering.
Ping were cautious entering into the adjustable market, wanting to design a driver and specifically a hosel that wouldn't adversely impact performance or appearance. The hosel design they settled on has the same mass and diameter as past 'fixed' hosels, making the transition to adjustability as seamless as possible.
The Ping G25 Driver has a 460cc head with a larger profile design. The ultra-thin-crown and aerodynamic design redistributes weight along the perimeter of the clubhead, moving the CG (centre of gravity) farther back and lower than any previous Ping driver. This new CG position increases the clubs MOI (moment of interia) and makes it extremely forgiving.
Ping engineers made structural reinforcements to the crown, sole and skirt in order to offer the G25 a solid feel and sound. Variable thickness behind the face powerfully transfers the energy of a players swing into the ball, producing fast ball speeds leading to greater distances off the tee.
Ping have developed the innovative TFC 189D shaft specifically for the discount golf clubs. This lightweight, high-balance point shaft has a new non-glare, charcoal finish to help eliminate reflections, improve alignment and inspire confidence at address.
